San Antonio Sketching Workshop with Ian Fennelly

Feed your creative soul with a sketching workshop in sunny San Antonio, Texas taught by UK Urban Sketcher, Ian Fennelly. We will explore the Alamo, the San Jose Mission, a local art village and cruise the San Antonio River under sunny skies. Workshop participants who arrive early are invited to meet in the hotel lobby at 2:00 for a warm up sketch (optional). All tour participants are invited to a welcome reception at 6pm.
Day 1 River Boat Tour + La Villita Historic Arts Village
Monday November 15, 2021
Tour participants will enjoy a 1 hour narrated boat tour along the narrow San Antonio River. Afterwards, Ian will teach Workshop #1: Layers of Looking near the hotel in the La Villita Historic Arts Village.
Day 2 Bus Tour Orientation + The King William Historic District
Tuesday November 16, 2021
After a delicious breakfast in our hotel, tour participants will take the Hop on Hop Off (HOHO) Bus on a guided tour of downtown San Antonio. Today we will explore the King William Historic District where Workshop #2: Living and Loving the Space You Are In will be held.
Day 3 San Fernando Cathedral + Governor's Palace
Wednesday November 17, 2021
After breakfast, participants will visit the Spanish Governor's Palace and the San Fernando Cathedral. Workshop #3: Colouring What you See will be held at a location nearby.
Day 4 The Alamo + el Mercado
Thursday November 18, 2021
Tour participants will walk to the Alamo and enjoy a brief guided tour (included). Workshop #4: Sketching Stories will be held nearby.
Day 5 Full Day Excursion to Mission San Jose
Friday November 19, 2021
Mission San Jose was built in 1720 and is the biggest of all the missions surrounding San Antonio. We will arrive by private coach and enjoy a tour. Workshop #5: The Hand, the Eye and the Heart will be held on site. After our workshop we will enjoy a farewell dinner (included).

NonWorkshop Participant tickets include the same attractions and meals as the Workshop Participants with the exception of the art classes.
This is a greenlighted workshop that has been rescheduled due to coronavirus and participants have already paid nonrefundable deposits and balances in full. However, there are still a few spots available. To reserve your spot in this workshop a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required for Workshop Participants and a $300 nonrefundable deposit is required for nonWorkshop Participants and is due 150 days before the start of the workshop. The remaining balance is due 120 days before the start of the workshop.

Accommodations
A block of rooms has been set aside for our group. This hotel is an 11 minute walk to the Alamo, a 15 minute walk to San Fernando Cathedral and a 20 minute walk to La Villita. A short 8 miles from the airport, the hotel is best reached by Uber or taxi. The rooms are being held at that rate until Oct 12.
If you are travelling alone and wish to share a room, please email Studio56Boutique@gmail.com and we will try to find a roommate for you among the participants.
Workshop participants are not obliged to stay in this hotel. You are welcome to stay in another hotel or even Airbnb if you prefer.
Travel + Medical Insurance
Travel medical insurance is also highly recommended as it pays for emergency medical services which may be significantly more expensive than expected.
Covid-19 Vaccinations
The instructor and tour manager are fully vaccinated against covid-19 and it is mandatory that all participants are fully vaccinated against covid-19.

Participants will be accompanied by Studio 56 owner, Brenda Murray. Brenda is an artist and arts advocate, the founder of Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region and a former Urban Sketchers Board member.
