November 21-25, 2021 

By popular demand a second workshop in San Antonio has been organized. Yes, it's Thanksgiving and we're going to celebrate with a great week of sketching workshops culminating in a delicious turkey dinner! We will explore the Alamo, the San Jose Mission, a local art village and cruise the San Antonio River under sunny skies. Average temperatures for that week in November in San Antonio: high of 72 °F (21°C) overnight low 53°F (12°C). 

Arrive Saturday November 20, 2021

Workshop participants who arrive early are invited to meet in the hotel lobby at 2:00 for a warm up sketch (optional). All tour participants are invited to a welcome reception at 6pm. Below is our proposed itinerary that is subject to change based on weather and availability.

Day 1 River Boat Tour + La Villita Historic Arts Village

Sunday November 21, 2021

Tour participants will enjoy a 1 hour narrated boat tour along the narrow San Antonio River. Afterwards, Ian will teach Workshop #1: Layers of Looking near the hotel in the La Villita Historic Arts Village.

Day 2 Bus Tour Orientation + The King William Historic District

Monday November 22, 2021

After a delicious breakfast in our hotel, tour participants will take the Hop on Hop Off (HOHO) Bus on a guided tour of downtown San Antonio. Today we will explore the King William Historic District where Workshop #2: Living and Loving the Space You Are In will be held.  

Day 3 San Fernando Cathedral + Governor's Palace

Tuesday November 23, 2021

After breakfast, participants will visit the Spanish Governor's Palace and the San Fernando Cathedral. Workshop #3: Colouring What you See will be held at a location nearby.

Day 4 The Alamo + el Mercado

Wednesday November 24, 2021

Tour participants will walk to the Alamo and enjoy a brief guided tour (included). Workshop #4: Sketching Stories will be held nearby.

Day 5 Full Day Excursion to Mission San Jose

Thursday November 25, 2021

Mission San Jose was built in 1720 and is the biggest of all the missions surrounding San Antonio. We will arrive by private coach and enjoy a tour. Workshop #5: The Hand, the Eye and the Heart will be held on site. After our workshop we will enjoy a farewell thanksgiving dinner (included).

NonWorkshop Participant tickets include the same attractions and meals as the Workshop Participants with the exception of the art classes.

To reserve your spot in this workshop a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required for Workshop Participants and a $300 nonrefundable deposit is required for nonWorkshop Participants by September 15, 2021. The remaining balance is due October 1, 2021.

Accommodations

A block of rooms has been set aside for our group. This hotel is an 11 minute walk to the Alamo, a 15 minute walk to San Fernando Cathedral and a 20 minute walk to La Villita. A short 8 miles from the airport, the hotel is best reached by Uber or taxi. The rooms are being held at that rate until Oct 12.

If you are travelling alone and wish to share a room, please email Studio56Boutique@gmail.com and we will try to find a roommate for you among the participants.

Workshop participants are not obliged to stay in this hotel. You are welcome to stay in another hotel or even Airbnb if you prefer.

Travel + Medical Insurance

Travel medical insurance is also highly recommended as it pays for emergency medical services which may be significantly more expensive than expected. 

Covid-19 Vaccinations

The instructor and tour manager are fully vaccinated against covid-19 and it is mandatory that all participants are fully vaccinated against covid-19.

Participants will be accompanied by Studio 56 owner, Brenda Murray. Brenda is an artist and arts advocate, the founder of Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region and a former Urban Sketchers Board member.
