Paris Sketching Workshop with Ian Fennelly
June 13-17, 2022
Explore the city of lights and learn new skills with a sketching workshop in Paris taught by UK urban sketcher, Ian Fennelly. During this 5-day workshop we will immerse ourselves in the art and culture of Paris! We will visit the most famous sites, absorb a lot of art, explore the cobbled back streets, visit a medieval village and the Château de Chantilly and more! In June the average daytime high temp. is 21.6°C (70.9°F) and the average nighttime low temp. is 12.5°C (54.5°F)--perfect weather for our art vacation!
Arrive Sunday June 12, 2022
Welcome to Paris! Workshop participants who arrive early are invited to meet in the hotel lobby at 2:00 for a warm up sketch (optional). All tour participants are invited to a welcome reception at 6pm.
Day 1 Cobbled Streets + the Eiffel Tower
Monday June 13, 2022
In the morning we will explore some of the cobbled streets near our hotel as we walk to the location of Workshop #1. After lunch we will take a boat tour along the Seine stopping off at the Eiffel Tower where we will ride to the top to enjoy the view.
Day 2 Jardin des Tuileries + Musée de l'Orangerie
Tuesday June 14, 2022
Today we will walk around the Tuileries Gardens and Workshop #2 will be held nearby. In the afternoon we will emmerse ourselves in the waterlily art of Claude Monet at the Musée de l'Orangerie.
Day 3 Notre Dame + the Louvre
Wednesday June 15, 2022
After breakfast, participants will walk to a quiet spot near Notre Dame where Ian will teach Workshop #3. After lunch we will explore the Louvre, the world's largest art museum.
Day 4 Pont Neuf + Musée d'Orsay
Thursday June 16, 2022
Today we will explore the famous Pont Neuf and Ian will teach Workshop #4 nearby. In the afternoon we will visit the Musée D'Orsay. Once the Gare d'Orsay, a beaux-arts railroad station, the museum now houses a staggering collection of Impressionist art created between 1848 and 1914.
Day 5 Full Day Excursion to Senlis + Chantilly
Friday June 17, 2022
Today we will travel by private coach to Senlis, a gorgeous medieval town that was once surrounded by a seven-meter high defensive wall built in the 3rd century. Here we will explore the remaining ramparts, the cobbled streets, the cathedral, and the remains of the Château Royale. Ian will teach Workshop #5 in the morning and then after lunch we will travel to nearby Château de Chantilly, the floating castle built by Henri d'Orléans. After a one-hour guided tour we will return via coach to our hotel.
In the evening we will celebrate an amazing week with a farewell dinner (included).

NonWorkshop Participant tickets include the same attractions and meals as the Workshop Participants with the exception of the art classes.
To reserve your spot in this workshop a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required for Workshop Participants and a $300 nonrefundable deposit is required for nonWorkshop Participants which is due 150 days before the start of the workshop. The remaining balance is due 120 days before the start of the workshop.

Accommodations
The official hotel of this tour is the Tonic Hôtel du Louvre. It is a 5 minute walk to the Louvre, a 15 minute walk to Notre Dame and a 7 minute walk to Pont Neuf. A block of rooms has been set aside for this group. The room rate is 149€ /room/ night breakfast included plus city tax: 1.88€ / person / night. A refundable deposit of one night's stay (149€) is required to reserve the room with free cancellation up to 3 months before arrival.

Workshop participants are not obliged to stay in this hotel. You are welcome to stay in another hotel or Airbnb if you prefer. However, if you would like to stay in this hotel, we suggest you make your reservation asap as there is free cancellation up to 3 months before arrival.
Travel + Medical Insurance
Travel insurance is also highly recommended as it covers you in the event you must cancel your trip and it covers emergency medical services which may be significantly more expensive than expected when travelling in a foreign country. Covid-19 Vaccinations
The instructor and tour manager are fully vaccinated against covid-19 and it is mandatory that all participants are fully vaccinated against covid-19. This tour will be following all locally recommended protocols.

Participants will be accompanied by Studio 56 owner, Brenda Murray. Brenda is an artist and arts advocate, the founder of Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region and a former Urban Sketchers Board member.
