Painting Figures Quickly with Hazel Soan

In this 1.5 hour online workshop renowned watercolour artist Hazel Soan guides students through her process for painting figures quickly during 4 exercises that increase slightly in difficulty. Students will learn how to quickly capture figures going straight in with watercolour. Quick Quick Quick! No pencil! You will get an over-the-shoulder view of Hazel's sketch and can paint along with Hazel using the reference photos provided.

Hazel Soan

Hazel trained at the Camberwell College of Arts and the Leicester College of Art. When London’s National Portrait Gallery acquired work by Hazel Soan, it was seen as an official endorsement of her skill and recognition of her life in art. She has exhibited worldwide and is well-known for her role as an Art Expert on Channel 4’s popular daytime television programme Watercolour Challenge and for her two series’ of Splash of Colour, made by Anglia TV. Hazel is a bestselling author of numerous highly regarded art tutorial books including Learn to Paint People Quickly. Hazel resides in London and is currently exhibiting at the M1 Fine Art Gallery in London.

Workshop Stages

Supply List

Any watercolour materials are suitable for this workshop, please use whatever colours you already have as you do not need specific colours. No drawing is required and no pencil is needed. For your information and guide, Hazel will be using 100% cotton paper and an enamel palette of pans and tubes of Schmincke colours and sable brushes, mainly a size 8 and 10 round brush and a flat brush. Hazel will be using Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna to mix her blacks. Other colours included are:

Yellow Ochre

Cadmium Red

Aureolin

Cerulean

Viridian

Ruby Red

You will need 4 sheets of watercolour paper.
