Inspired by the Group of Seven

Late summer/early fall 2026

During this 5-day watercolor workshop we will get inspired by the same gorgeous landscapes that inspired the Group of Seven*. We will visit some of the (approximate) locations in Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada where the Group of Seven painted. Here, surrounded by the stillness of nature, we will breathe the fresh, pine-scented air and make our watercolour paintings in our own style with the help of our Master watercolour painting instructor, Gary Geraths.

FAQs

  • Q: Where is Algonquin Park?
  • A: Algonquin Park is 229 mi (369 km) north of Toronto. It spans approximately 7,700 sq kms (2,900 sq mi) and is characterized by its diverse landscape, with over 2,400 lakes and 1,200 kms of streams and rivers. Visitors enjoy canoeing, camping and hiking, backpacking, fishing, and winter activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
  • Q: Where will we be staying?
  • A: In a very comfortable hotel--no camping involved.
  • Q: Who is the instructor?
  • A: An experienced watercolor landscape instructor still to be confirmed.
  • Q: What is the exact date?
  • A: Still to be determined. If you are interested and would like to suggest dates when you will be available, please click HERE.
  • Q: Who are the Group of Seven?
  • A: Established in 1920, the Group of Seven was an association of seven Canadian landscape oil painters whose art kickstarted the art scene in Canada and became part of the Canadian ethos. Their goal was to show the vast and wild landscapes in Canada.
  • Q: Will we be painting like the Group of Seven?
  • A: Not at all. Our goal will be to be inspired by the landscapes that inspired them. We will be plein air watercolour painting (not oil) in our own style under the expert guidance of our watercolor landscape instructor.
  • Q: Will we encounter wildlife in Algonquin Park?
  • A: There is a high possibility that we will encounter moose, deer and beaver during our time in the park.
  • Q: How will we arrive at the painting locations?
  • A: Via a private coach. From the coach parking lot there will be some hiking involved (500m -2km) to arrive at our painting locations on groomed trails that look like this:
