Bruges & Ghent: Cozy, Charming and Entirely Sketchable
Bruges and Ghent are two nearby medieval towns with stunning architecture and a rich cultural heritage, known for their artisanal beers, charming canals, cozy cafes and magnificent Flemish art. Both towns are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
While chocolate and waffles and sweets of all kinds are ubiquitous, these towns are also eye-candy. Colourful buildings, zigzag roof lines, and Flemish spires reflect in the calm canals. It is sketching paradise! 
Bruges, sometimes called the "Venice of the North" is, of necessity, a city of many many bridges all of which contribute to the abundance of serene landscapes available to sketchers and painters.
A day trip to Ghent is a must for anyone interested in Flemish art and architecture. Here we must make our artistic pilgrimmage to see the Ghent Altarpiece where we can see with our own eyes the oddly human face of the sacrificial lamb. Next we must explore Gravensteen Castle, the mysterious ‘Castle of the Counts’, the only remaining medieval castle in Flanders with a moat!
Of course, the highlight on an artistic week in Bruges & Ghent will be 5 amazing watercolour classes with renowned UK artist, Hazel Soan who has many years of experience as an instructor and artist. Hazel's enthusiasm for watercolour painting, for our cultural experiences and for life in general is contagious. She makes the workshop fun for everyone.
