Pat Southern Pearce's Savannah Vacation Workshop

You are invited to join Pat Southern Pearce's exciting vacation workshop in historic Savannah, GA  Nov 14-18, 2022. We will be learning how to make beautiful sketches on toned paper, enjoying southern hospitality and exploring an exciting city in good company. The average temperatures for that week in Savannah: high of 70°F (21°C) overnight low 50°F (10°C). 

UK-based urban sketcher and artist and the "Queen of Watercolour Pencils",  Pat Southern Pearce, was born and raised in the North of England. Pat trained as a painter and had a long career in teaching in schools and at University before she stepped back to work for herself. She is known for her love of watercolour pencil on toned grounds. Pat has taught workshops around the world and is a favourite at USK Symposiums.  

 

Arrive Sunday November 13, 2022

Workshop participants who arrive early are invited to meet in the hotel lobby at 2:00 for a warm up sketch (optional). Pat will not be teaching. All tour participants are invited to a welcome reception at 6pm. Below is our proposed itinerary.

Day 1 Sketch a Grand Georgian Mansion

Monday November 14, 2022

After a delicious breakfast in our hotel, tour participants will take the narrated Hop on Hop Off (HOHO) trolley from the stop in front of our hotel on a narrated tour of downtown Savannah stopping in front of Forsyth Mansion where Pat will teach Workshop #1.  In the afternoon we will continue on the HOHO trolley and finish our tour.

 

Day 2 Sketch River Street

Tuesday November 15, 2022

 

Today we will take a short walk to River Street where Pat will teach Workshop #2. In the afternoon we will enjoy a narrated cruise along the Savannah River aboard the Georgia Queen.


 

Day 3 Sketch the Bonaventure Cemetery

Wednesday November 16, 2022

After breakfast, participants will travel by private coach to the Bonaventure Cemetery where Pat will teach Workshop #3 capturing the lovely white shapes and the atmosphere of the place.





Day 4 Sketch a Pirate's House

Thursday November 17, 2022

Today we will take a short walk to the Pirate's House where Pat will teach Workshop #4. The Pirate's House first opened as an inn for seafarers, and fast became a rendezvous for blood-thirsty pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas. This building is a restaurant now and participants may decide to have lunch there. In the afternoon we will visit the Prohibition Museum where we will learn about gangsters and rum runners from the 1930s. 

Day 5 Sketch Jones St, the Prettiest Street in Savannah

Friday November 18, 2022

Today we will walk a short distance to Jones Street, called the prettiest street in Savannah with it's wide brick-paved streets and sidewalks, historic buildings and gorgeous gardens. Here Pat will teach Workshop #5.

In the evening we will celebrate a wonderful week with a delicious farewell dinner (included).

NonWorkshop Participant tickets include the same attractions and meals as the Workshop Participants with the exception of the art classes.

To reserve your spot in this workshop a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required for Workshop Participants and a $300 nonrefundable deposit is required for nonWorkshop Participants 150 days prior to the start of the workshop on June 17, 2022. The remaining balance is due 120 days prior to the start of the workshop on July 17, 2022. This workshop will be greenlighted when deposits have been made by the minimum number of participants (10).

Accommodations

The official hotel of this workshop is the Holiday Inn Express Savannah Historic District, 199 East Bay Street. A block of rooms has been set aside for our group at the discounted group rate of $195.USD/night single occupancy + tax including breakfast with free cancellation up to 72 hours before check-in. This block of rooms is being held at this rate until July 18, 2022. The hotel is a 19 minute drive from the airport and is best reached by Uber or taxi.  Check-in is at 4pm check-out is at 11am.

Workshop participants are not obliged to stay in this hotel. You are welcome to stay in another hotel or an Airbnb if you prefer.

Travel + Medical Insurance

Travel insurance is also highly recommended as it covers you in the event you must cancel your trip and it covers emergency medical services. Please check with your insurance provider. Covid-19 Vaccinations

The instructor and tour manager are fully vaccinated against covid-19 and it is mandatory that all participants are fully vaccinated against covid-19. While we are travelling together we will form our own bubble and will avoid crowds and will mask when appropriate.

Participants will be accompanied by Studio 56 owner, Brenda Murray. Brenda is a Canadian artist and arts advocate, the founder of Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region and a former Urban Sketchers Board member. A seasoned traveler, Brenda has traveled to Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Liechenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea (lived there for 4 years), Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Uganda, UK, and the USA (35 states).
