Florence Sketching Workshop with Miguel Herranz
June 8 - 12, 2020
Explore Florence and learn new sketching skills and techniques with Barcelona-based urban sketcher and artist, Miguel Herranz. Miguel will teach 5 art sessions to a small group of 10-15 participants and together we will discover the food, architecture, culture and traditions of Florence. Be prepared to sketch, sketch, sketch! Average temperatures in Florence at this time of year are a high of 79F (26C) in the day and low of 61F (16C) at night.
Miguel Herranz is a Spanish illustrator based in Barcelona. He is often a storyboard artist and sometimes an urban sketcher. In fact, he is one of the founding members of Urban Sketchers. Miguel is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian.
This package includes 5 art classes, a day trip to a winery, ground transportation and admission to attractions, several demonstrations and many opportunities to sketch.
Day 1 Arrival in Florence
June 7, 2020
Welcome to Florence! Participants will arrive at their hotel and will have the rest of the day to settle into their accommodations. Early arrivals are invited to meet in the lobby at 3:00 for a warm up sketch (optional). Later in the evening we will meet for a welcome reception (included) at 6pm after which those available may wish to enjoy our first meal together.
Day 2 Leonardo DaVinci Museum + Piazza di Santa Maria Novella
June 8, 2020
After breakfast we will visit the Leonardo DaVinci Museum. In the afternoon, our instructor, Miguel will teach Session #1 "Block Drawing: From simple shapes as building blocks to complex forms and details" in the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella right in front of our hotel.
In the evening we will enjoy a live concert of classical music.
Day 3 Duomo + Piazza di Santa Croce
June 9, 2020
In the morning we will take a one hour tour of the iconic Duomo. In the afternoon we will visit the Piazza di Santa Croce.
Here Miguel will teach Session #2 "Spiral: starting from a detail on the center and growing around".
In the evening we will stroll the streets of Florence and enjoy a Drink & Draw.
Day 4 Michelangelo's David at the Galleria del' Accademia + the Ponte Vecchio
June 10, 2020
In the morning we will visit the Galleria del'Accademia where Michelangelo's David sculpture is kept. David is a masterpiece or Renaissance sculpture created in marble between 1501 and 1504 by the Italian artist Michelangelo. This is a 17 ft marble statue of the Biblical hero David, a favored subject in the art of Florence and there are several imitation statues to be found in Florence.
In the afternoon Miguel will teach Session #3 "Frame: Dividing the scene in little drawings to compose the tale" near the Ponte Vecchio.
Day 5 Excursion to nearby villages + Vineyard tour
June 11, 2020
Today we will travel by coach to the ancient hill towns surrounding Florence and enjoy a vineyard tour.
Miguel will teach Session #4 "Colour: Adding drama to your drawing tale with a simple approach to color" on site.
After lunch (included) we will spend the rest of the day exploring and sketching.
Day 6 Handmade Pasta Cooking Class + Piazza San Lorenzo
June 12, 2020
Today we take a handmade pasta cooking class then enjoy a relaxing lunch featuring the food we created.
Day 7 Departure
June 13, 2020
It's time to say goodbye but you will never forget the friends you made or the skills you learned during this great week! Or extend your stay for a long relaxing holiday :)

Workshop Participant tickets are on sale on a first-come first-served basis until they are sold out. The minimum number of Workshop Participant tickets needed to greenlight this vacation workshop is 10. Ticket sales will close when the maximum number of available Workshop Participant tickets (15) have been sold.
NonWorkshop Participant tickets include the same attractions and meals as the Workshop Participants with the exception of the art classes.

Accommodations are not included in the ticket price for this Vacation Workshop. Participants will need to book their own accommodations. The artist and the tour manager will be staying at Hotel Universo which is conveniently located in the Piazza di Novella Santa Maria. It is a short 15 minutes walk to all attractions in this package. Prices listed below include buffet breakfast, service and 10% of VAT. Rate does not include city tax of 4,50 € per person per night. Rates may go up in February.
